Artemis Executive Search are delighted to have been exclusively retained by leading multi-discipline specialist contractor Dowds Group as they seek to appoint a Group Head of SHEQ.

The company are seeking an experienced, ambitious individual, who wants to take full ownership and lead a key Group function, whilst also supporting the Board of Directors in shaping strategic direction and driving company’s core values.

Established in 1978 Dowds Group has evolved over the years from a specialist M&E subcontractor into a multi-faceted Construction company covering M&E, Construction, Facilities Management and Energy. Covering a broad spectrum of project type, they are specifically known for their work in cutting-edge Healthcare, Education, Leisure, and Commercial sectors.

As Group Head of SHEQ you will lead, define, and implement the SHEQ strategy and vision ensuring compliance in all areas.

Reporting to the Board, you are a strategic leader who will collaborate closely with the Business Unit Managing Directors and Project Management teams to drive initiatives and a culture of SHEQ operational excellence and continual improvement across all divisions.

In this role, your leadership will be pivotal in driving Dowds Group’s commitment to Net Zero and ESG strategies. You will ensure environmental and sustainability targets are met and implement initiatives, new processes and develop metrics to ensure continual improvement.

You will develop, review and update HSEQ policies, procedures, and documentation, ensuring compliance with the requirements of ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards. Managing the certification process you will also manage and lead incident investigations, inspections and internal audit plans.

You are in a senior SHEQ leadership role and have a NEBOSH Diploma or NVQ Level 5 Diploma in Occupational H&S Practice. You have a minimum of 5 years’ health, safety, and environmental experience within the Construction sector and hold or are working towards Chartership of Institution of Occupational Safety & Health and can set the health, safety, environmental and quality strategy for the Company.

You have a thorough knowledge of health, safety, and environmental legislation and 9001, 14001 and 45001 and proven experience of setting and meeting environmental and sustainability (ESG) targets.

Data driven you can use monitoring and auditing results to drive continuous improvement and provide input into prequalification and tender submissions.

This is a senior key appointment where you will be able to take ownership of and shape the SHEQ division, growing and inspiring the team and implementing the necessary changes to really drive operational excellence and continuous improvement.
