Is a career in Corporate Finance for you?

Is a career in Corporate Finance for you?

The market in Northern Ireland is buoyant and the deal flow is strong.  There has never been a better time to consider a career in M&A, Transactions Services or Restructuring.

Corporate finance relates to activities fundamental to running a business.  The main focus is maximising shareholder value.

A career in Corporate Finance gives you the opportunity to be at the centre of how a business operates, it is the way a company finances creation, growth and the acquisition or disposal of businesses.

You could find yourself working on a wide range of matters including the following:

  • Capital raising – through either securing a loan from a bank, restructuring the business, or winning financial backing through other platforms including crowdfunding, mergers, acquisitions, changes in ownership etc.
  • This is an exciting role that is forward-thinking, pro-active, strategic, commercial and suits individuals with an entrepreneurial flair.

So, how do you progress your career in this area?

You will have trained in an accountancy firm and qualified in either ACA or ACCA.  You will have gained a strong foundation from your time with the firm including client management, methodologies, systems, and report-writing.  All of these are important, transferrable skills.

I am working on some exciting opportunities at present that will allow you to move from Audit to Deal Advisory, Transaction Services, Restructuring or even Financial Modelling.

Alternatively, you may have trained within an Advisory team, and you are now seeking to further your career in another firm where you will be given the opportunity to work with exciting clients, a more hybrid role or the chance to work with some of the strongest dealmakers in the market.

These roles will vary depending on the firm, I am currently working on opportunities in the Big 4 firms, some exciting Top 10 firms and with Boutique Advisory firms.

All of my clients will consider professionals coming from an AUDIT background!!

All of the above offer great career opportunities where you have the opportunity to work in Deal Advisory, Transaction services, M&A or a hybrid role.

We are also seeing a rise in the number of firms seeking specialised skills such as financial modelling or advanced excel.

Please contact Sinead Walsh for a confidential discussion on these exciting opportunities!
