Financial Controller
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a qualified finance professional to join a leading organisation in Belfast as Financial Controller, taking responsibility for financial control, reporting, governance and compliance across UK and Ireland operations.
This role would be particularly suited to an experienced Senior Manager within audit who is looking to transition from professional practice into industry, bringing strong technical accounting expertise, a detailed understanding of financial controls and the ability to partner with senior stakeholders on commercial and financial matters.
The Role
The Financial Controller will lead the financial control agenda across the UK and Ireland, ensuring the integrity, accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting while maintaining a robust control environment and meeting statutory and regulatory requirements.
- Leading the month-end close process and maintaining the integrity of balance sheets across UK and Ireland operations.
- Overseeing statutory accounts preparation, external audits and regulatory filings.
- Strengthening internal controls, governance frameworks and financial policies.
- Providing technical accounting guidance on complex transactions, accounting treatments and financial reporting matters.
- Leading, developing and mentoring the financial control team, promoting high standards and continuous improvement.
- Building strong relationships with senior stakeholders and providing financial insight to support decision-making.
- Supporting budgeting activities and partnering with finance colleagues and budget holders.
- Identifying opportunities to streamline processes, improve reporting and enhance financial systems and controls.
- Deputising for the UK CFO when required and providing support on financial control and governance matters.
The Candidate
- The successful candidate will be a fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) with significant post-qualification experience and a strong background in audit, financial reporting and technical accounting.
- Strong technical accounting knowledge, including IFRS and/or UK GAAP.
- Experience managing complex audits, statutory reporting and financial control requirements.
- A sound understanding of balance sheet integrity, internal controls, risk management and governance.
- Proven leadership skills, with the ability to develop teams and maintain high standards.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the confidence to influence senior decision-makers.
- A proactive approach to process improvement, systems and operational efficiency.
- Strong attention to detail, integrity and the ability to manage competing priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
