Role Overview

We are delighted to be working with a leading local practice who are looking to add to their employment team, this role will be focusing entirely on claimant work. The successful candidate will handle a mixed caseload of employment law matters, working closely with trade union members and providing high-quality legal support. This role involves representation in the Employment Tribunal, including unfair dismissal, discrimination, unlawful deductions, whistleblowing, equal pay, and holiday pay cases.

Key Responsibilities

  • Case Management: Manage a caseload of employment law cases from initial instruction through to conclusion, ensuring all cases are progressed efficiently and within relevant deadlines.
  • Client Representation: Act as an advocate for clients in the Employment Tribunal, including conducting case management preliminary hearings (CMPHs) and liaising with counsel for more complex hearings.
  • Trade Union Liaison: Collaborate closely with trade union representatives to ensure comprehensive client support and legal advice aligned with union objectives.
  • Legal Research and Advice: Provide clear, accurate legal advice to clients on a wide range of employment issues, and conduct relevant legal research as necessary.
  • Documentation and Preparation: Prepare, draft, and review relevant legal documents, including witness statements, pleadings, and submissions to the Tribunal.
  • Multi-Claimant Cases: Handle and support multi-claimant cases, particularly in relation to holiday pay and equal pay, coordinating across large groups of clients to manage complex claims.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Qualified Solicitor in England and Wales with demonstrable experience in employment law (PQE level flexible; salary dependent on experience).
  • Tribunal Experience: Previous experience representing clients in Employment Tribunal hearings, CMPHs, or working alongside counsel at hearings is highly desirable.
  • Claimant-Focused Background: Proven experience in claimant employment law cases, with a particular focus on discrimination, unfair dismissal, and whistleblowing claims.
  • Knowledge of Trade Union Work: Familiarity with union-led cases or experience working with trade unions is beneficial but not essential.
  • Strong Communication Skills: Ability to communicate complex legal issues clearly to clients, union representatives, and tribunal officials.
  • Organisational Skills: Capable of handling a busy caseload effectively, meeting deadlines, and prioritising tasks.
