This is a fast-paced, exciting organisation and this role is a key hire for them.  The successful individual will work with Senior Stakeholders in the business with a focus on Finance Business Partnering and Commercial Finance.

As the Commercial Finance Manager, you will lead a team and add additional value to this very successful organisation.

A passion for business improvement and experience in Data analysis is essential.

The Role

This role will provide analysis, insight and understanding of the gross margin return for all the business units within the business as well as the day to day running of the finance department. As such, the role will act as a finance business partner to this commercial function as well as assist with making business decisions by providing support to the management and operations team.

  • Provide finance business partner support to the operations and commercial teams, influencing behaviours and performance through insight and understanding of key drivers and market trends.
  • Manage ongoing forecasting and financial reviews to ensure commercial risks and opportunities are highlighted.
  • Prepare insightful commercial reports and analysis to support management decision-making, and identify significant customer trends and issues (for example, by monitoring performance against forecast)
  • Deliver analysis of sales performance/margins on a timely basis – volume, price, mix vs. forecast – identifying reasons for variance, recommending actions, and measuring outcomes.
  • Monitor and control customer pricing to ensure that margins are maximised.
  • Conduct customer account profitability analysis to ensure margin expectations are being achieved.
  • Drive the monthly business performance reporting process with site and divisional management, ensuring accurate and timely delivery of information.
  • Lead and improve the budgeting and forecasting processes, including agreeing, reviewing & challenging targets with commercial leads.
  • Co-ordinate and lead the annual financial planning process for the division.
  • Develop a long-term strategic sales plan in collaboration with the divisional commercial team.
  • Estimate the return on investment for retail marketing campaigns (advertising, product launches, promotions, etc.)
  • Develop and improve accounting & control processes to ensure that results are reported appropriately, accurately and on a timely basis.
  • Measure and report monthly commercial KPI's to senior management
  • Other duties that may be assigned from time to time in line with your role as Commercial Finance Controller.


The Person:

  • Fully qualified accountant with several years post qualification experience
  • Previous experience in providing commercial support in a B2B/B2C environment
  • Experience in developing and presenting financial reports to support business decision-making.
  • Strong commercial acumen essential with experience in negotiating with customers and/or suppliers.
  • Excellent computer skills, particularly in the use of Excel, and ERP systems for financial analysis and reporting. Experience in the use PowerBI
  • Ability to work as part of site/divisional finance team as well as having a track record of building strong relationships with non-finance personnel.
  • Good analytical and presentation skills as well as the ability to work under pressure.
  • Self-motivated with a high level of initiative and attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal, collaboration, communication skills
